Bury Girls & Ladies FC

'Working with Schools'

funded by

Since the 6,500 Lottery Grant was awarded to Bury Girls & Ladies FC in March 2012 we have worked with 5 High Schools and 4 Primary Schools.  So far we have provided coaching to 118 girls at Bury schools over the last 10 weeks, offering one hour per week of coaching to each school.  We have covered girls in school years 5 through to 9.

Our first phase was summed up by the girls being invited to our home ground at Phillips High School, Whitefield to attend a Football Festival.  We held two festivals on the 3rd June 2012 with the Primary school girls attending in the morning and the Secondary school girls attending in the afternoon.  We had a great turn out even though it decided to rain for most of the day.  This didn't dampen our spirits as the girls enjoyed a mini-tournament, goal keeper coaching, a penalty shoot out and other football related activities.  The girls and their parents/carers were also given the opportunity to meet our Club Coaches and Managers.

The girls were rewarded for all their efforts with a participation medal and most took up the offer of joining the Club and furthering their football careers.

Thanks must go to Derek Egan, Lancashire FA County Development Manager for attending the event, and to all our Managers, Coaches, Referees, Louisa, Katie & Jess (Bury players) who came down on the day to ensure our new players felt more than welcome.  I look forward to seeing you all at training in the coming weeks, with your new teams.

Our work with the community has not finished there, as our second phase has now begun with 5 more Primary Schools and with some girls in Years 3 & 4 receiving coaching.  A further festival will be held in July.
